John Fagan, BIM, is the contact person in Ireland.
He is currently employed by Bord Iascigh Mara (BIM) which is the Irish State agency with responsibility for developing the Irish Sea Fishing and Aquaculture industries. He is based at the Ashtown Food Research Centre (AFRC) (formerly The National Food Centre) and carries out R & D for the Irish seafood sector in the areas of value added technologies for fish and shellfish species. The AFRC do research and develop innovative technologies for applications in the wider food sector and many of these technologies have direct applications to seafood processing. Packaging, ingredients and shelf-life technologies used to add value to beef, pork, fruit and vegetable products can therefore be applied to seafood to develop a range of innovative convenience products suitable for modern lifestyles.
John Fagan has studied aquaculture, applied aquatic science, fisheries technology and has been involved with numerous projects related to added value technologies for underutilised and commercial fish species. He currently engages with most seafood companies in Ireland and assists companies with all aspects of product development, processing and sourcing of machinery and equipment.
