Partner 28: The Wageningen Centre for Food Sciences (WCFS)

 WCFS in the Netherlands is an alliance of food industry partners and research organisations carrying out longterm, startegic and fundamental research to meet the dual objective of industrial relevance and scientific excellence. Participating research institutes in WCFS are: NIZO food research, TNO Nutrition and Food Research Institute, University Maastricht and Wageningen University and Research Centre. WCFS industrial partners are: Avebe, Cosun, CSM, DSM, Unilever and NZO (Netherlands Dairy Industry Association).

WCFS focuses on three research programmes

  • Nutrition and Health,
  • Structure and Functionality, and
  • Microbial Functionality and Safety.

 

The 150 researchers at WCFS do their research at the participating research institutes. The meta-heart project in SEAFOODplus (Project 1.3 METAHEART) fits in the n-3 fatty acids and arrhythmia project of the Nutrition and Health programme within WCFS.
