On Thursday 18th September a meeting was held of the SEAFOODplus council at Centro Technologico del Mar (CETMAR) in Vigo (Spain).

The council meeting, chaired by Torger Børresen discussed the proposals regarding the revised workprogramme of SEAFOODplus and the corresponding budgets for RTD and ITD activities. Although the reductions in the EU grant was considerable (46% of the requested grant) a balanced RTD and ITD programme could be proposed taking into account the remarks made in the EU scientific evaluation report of the submitted proposal.

The total EU grant for SEAFOODplus programme is 14.4 Meuro and the total RTD budget is 25.2 MEuro. The distribution of the EU grant over the 5 RTD pillars and the horizontal activity on traceability is presented in figures 1. The total number of research projects is 20 and the total number of partners involved in SEAFOODplus is 68.

The SEAFOODplus council supported the proposal and the way the reductions were implemented in the various research proposals. All projects have substantial manpower and budgets allocated to reach the ambitious targets within the given time frame of SEAFOODplus of 5 years.

The next step is the revision of the detailed workplans for all the projects. It is the aim to deliver not later than 3rd of October the revised SEAFOODplus workprogramme to the Commission.

On 21st of October the SEAFOODplus day-to-day management team (Torger Børresen, Joop Luten, Jim Codd and Jette Donovan Jensen) will meet the representatives from DG XII Research in order to discuss the revised workprogramme of SEAFOODplus.

After the council meeting Torger Børresen and Joop Luten were interviewed by the press and TV in Vigo about the SEAFOODplus program and the WEFTA Industrial Forum meeting held on 19 September.
