SEAFOODplus presented in Chile

The coordinator of the RTD activity on traceability, Erling Larsen, visited a number of processing industries, aquaculture sites, fishing cooperatives and the regional authorities in the Puerto Montt area. He also presented SEAFOOplus to more than 100 representatives from the food sector at an international seminar in Santiago the 22. October 2003.



The sixth of the Research and Technology Development activities within SEAFOODplus is "Seafood traceability to ensure consumer confidence". One of the main tasks is to ensure that the information flow from the primary producer through the whole chain until the consumer is kept intact. Key chains will be analysed and after the visit to Chile, the possibility of analysing fish chains from Chile to the European consumers have been opened. Major players in the Chilean industry and distribution chains expressed great interest in working together with SEAFOODplus to introduce traceability on seafood products exported to the European market.
